Seoul is a beautiful place with beautiful people, a prospering economy and a culinary scene that can't be described with words. But before you get to all that, you are provided with a good impression of what's in store for you, right after you land.
Incheon International Airport has been rated the best airport worldwide by Airports Council International, every year since 2005. And there is a reason for that. Not only are its architecture and general feel a cut above the rest. It seems to be designed to make you happy. The airport has a golf course, spa, private sleeping rooms, an ice skating rink, a casino, indoor gardens, and a Museum of Korean Culture.
It offers a whole slew of excellent restaurants, from family-style home cooking and steak houses to upper class dining, some of it with fantastic views of the tarmac and runway.
And then there is something I've never seen anywhere else in the world - a small room in the middle of the international terminal with a very private feel to it. The room is filled with rows of chairs and a small stage at the front. At certain times of each day, a musician dressed in folk clothing performs traditional Korean music on an historical instrument. The experience can only be described as blissful, meditative and completely out of place. If you haven't fallen in love with Korea already, this is where it happens.
