If there is one thing that is more destructive to people’s lives than anything else, it’s fear.
Fear is the elephant in the room.
It is the root of so many of humanity’s problems that, if it were removed, or even just slightly reduced, life on planet earth would change immeasurably.
In some of our cultures, fear has become so rampant, that people who have never met are actually terrified of each other.
Think about yourself. How do you feel when you walk alone on the street at night? Every stranger that passes by, even on the other side of the road, makes you look up with a sting of discomfort in your chest.
They probably feel the same way about you, too.
You! The least likely person to attack someone.
This is clearly insane. But, worse than that, it backfires on you.
Every time you entertain negative thoughts or a powerful negative emotion, like fear, you are creating an energy flow toward the things you are afraid of.
You actually attract them to you.
The answer here is very simple: choose better-feeling thoughts.
You don’t actually have to suppress fearful thoughts. Just replace them with positive ones.
You can only think one thought at a time. So, whatever is at the forefront of your mind is what dominates it.
You are in control of what you think and feel. Never forget that!
So, now that I’ve made my point about fear, let’s not talk about it any longer.
Let’s turn our attention to something much more productive.
Let’s appreciate. And there is a lot appreciate.
You are alive, for one. You have your wits about you. You clearly have access to this material. You have a body. You have a mind. You have the freedom to think what you want and feel what you want. You have the freedom to make up your mind about things and then do what you choose to do.
No matter how crappy your life is, you actually get to choose happiness right now. Can you believe that? You can make yourself feel happy, or thankful, or hopeful or anything else.
You get to choose.
